Well here goes, my 2 cent preview of STO.
Most of my commentary is within the pics, but I figured I'd give my overall view of things:
I dig it.
For me, it feels a lot like Tie Fighter did when fighting against enemy capitol ships. While right now I have to break my hand pressing the spacebar repeatedly to fire, an autofire feature is coming.
In the end, it's a closed beta right? Well, it's pretty damn polished for a closed beta. I ran into a single bug for the 2 days I played it.
Color me impressed. I sincerely hope the game continues to win me over, as I plan on playing it a whole bunch this weekend. :)

Wow!
VERY impressive, that. Your "TIE Fighter" reference conjured up memories of many, many lost hours inside that game. Boy, was that game fun! I used to have "X-Wing Alliance," but never finished it. Great stuff! How's the UI in battle? The space-based stuff looks like a cross between "Homeworld" and "Star Trek: Armada." What's the ratio between ship and ground combat? Are there sophisticated "missions," or just "kill everything that moves?"
Thanks much for that slideshow. Nice to see them bringing in stuff like the Briar Patch, the DS9 wormhole, etc. Very, very cool. What model ships are available?

The pictures remind me of an old game (Starfleet Battles) only much more modern and updated. Loved that one.....

The UI is decent, it needs a bit of cleaning up--but for closed beta it's pretty good.
Many missions require both ship and ground combat, actually. Most I've encountered have.
Most of the missions are kill, as it is a MMO, but there are those that aren't.
There are so many ships it's not funny. You start with 3 to start with (all basically Miranda class variants) and go from there.
Neato. Might have to sneak a peak if I get by your place this weekend. I'm always up for a decent MMO so hopefully this one will pan out.

Thanks so Much Andrew, Im very relived to hear that you enjoyed it and had so much positive to say. As allways the forums are just an endless hatefest so its hard to get a handel on the game.
I have been looking forward to this game for a long time and it looks to be everything I hoped for.
