Contest Update: Kerplunk!

By Stelek

Hi!

Time to update the contest.

Here are a few of the answers provided:

Lousiana license plate 007-981 is pulled from the belly of a shark in Jaws and appears again the mouth of a shark in Deep Blue Sea.

==========

So for a long-time reader I'm bugged that this is my first email...

Carly Simon song 'Nobody Does it Better' was used 981 times in 'The Spy Who Loved Me.'

Although it feels sort of dirty since it was a lame Google search.

==========

Hi Stelek, I enjoy your blog. I believe 981 is a reasonable estimate of the number of people he has killed.

 ==========
 Thats how many episodes called double-oh-seven by John H.  Leinhard were aired

==========

I'm not sure i'm really making an "entry" to the competition with this but that sequence, that's the licence plate number in Jaws

did you know that, is that the "answer" or is there something else entirely that James bond actually did do that many times :)

oh and i have no idea why i used so many of "" those buggers in this email.

chalk it up to embarassment
==========
 alright, I've got 2 last guesses.

.007*981=6.867

so double oh seven goes into 6.867
nine hundred eighty one times.

last guess..

double (oh seven) is 14, 14 does 13734 nine hundred eighty one times.
13734 upside down is helei

aw heck, I've probably misplaced a decimal,

or I'm still way off, and it's a road in Utah that has 981 intersections.

==========

 007 and 0707 have appeared as part of the MM/DD/YYYY date 891 times since 1701.
==========

 //This loop executed 981 times
//Bond waiting two years to release his first movie

int bond;
const firstmoviereleaseyear = 1962;

do{
    bond = bond + 2;
}while (bond < firstmoviereleaseyear);
==========
 Are you referring to shwah numerals?

==========

 technically 007 didnt do anything any number of times because he is a fictional character and therefore cannot do anything.   this is chris by the way, so i dont know if i qualify, but i just wanted to throw in my 2 cents ;)
==========
 A couple guesses -

-The number of bugs fixed in Microsoft Office 2007 service pack 2

-The number of laps completed by Jensen Button's BAR 007 Formula One racer in the 2005 season

==========

 How about this one: He used his license to gill.

I'm going to be disappointed if the answer turns out to be something numeric and I couldn't figure it out....
==========

Oh boy.

While amusing, and many of you got close--the correct answer is:

He was eaten by Bubba the Great White.

See, I listed the numbers as I'm sure all of you would search the numbers (ie. I tricked you).

The series finale of Pushing Daisies (titled Kerplunk) actually has the same scene as the other two shows many of you listed, as I figured you would google the numbers but not the event itself.

All too easy, that one.  ;)

I figured nobody else would have watched Pushing Daisies and remember that scene.

Oh and if you'd googled 'the truth 007981' the result would have come up.  lol

Sorry fellas.  I'll come up with something else to befuddle you in a couple weeks!

Hey man,

I didnt actually google it, I just remember wierd shit like that, such as the ident numbers of stortroopers and blah blah.

I have googled it now, and find it does indeed appear in both "Deep blue shark" and "shark tale" both of which I didnt know, But I'm missing soemthing being not a fan (of even aware of the existence of) "Pushing Dasies"

Is it the same thing again? liscenc eplate in shark's stomach with same serial number in that show, or was it something else, because that aint showing up on my googles

While a free contest is nice, this didn't make a lick of sense....

007 Didn't _do anything_ 981 times.   Had you phrased it as:

What number got eaten by a shark 4 times?

Then at least the question would've made sense...

Arrgh! the Maths, they fail me.

the maths:

funny video though. I kept thinking of it while trying to solve this.

how tall is IMHOTEP?

He was eaten 981 times?  That doesn't make all that much sense.

Gah!  Right reference, wrong shark.

It was a trick question.

I don't feel very bad no one got it, it's not supposed to make sense.  lol

If I'd phrased it differently, who knows if anyone would have gotten the number correctly--and technically, that's a trick question too...as no number was eaten X times.  =P

I think this was less of a "trick question", and more of a "jumble of words, find the meaning".

Nice minor reference, though.  I do remember Pushing Daisies, but I don't recall that episode.  Looks like I need to check out Netflix.

[Edit] What's funny is the google ad currently at the top my screen is for the "Jaws" Rifftrax.  Nice job, google.

so, who won?

Stelek said...

Uhh nobody.  There were no correct answers.

SandWyrm said...

It's not much of a riddle if the answer doesn't make sense.

Everyone guessed half the answer correctly, so I guess it made sense to someone.
