Why do Fire Warriors suck?

Can someone please inform me why fire warriors are crap?
I think for 10pts you get a good deal, they will be wounding most things on 3's, have longer range and provide a semi decent fire base if backed up with kroot to take the charge.
The only thing I see kroot good for are a unit of 10 to take the home objective if 6 fire warriors are killed or as a speed bump. And their guns are standard bolters.
Unless I am seriously missing something?

Fire Warriors suck because...
1) Tau players think putting out 12 shots at 30", hitting 6 times, wounding 4 times, and killing one 15 point marine is 'good'. Even at short range, they don't do a whole hell of a lot.
2) Tau FW have a 4+ save. Wellp, now everyone else has a 4+ save too.
3) Tau FW do not get a 2+ cover save, unlike Kroot who can.
4) Tau FW have no heavy or SW. Neither do Kroot, but if all I want is a meat shield Kroot are cheaper and can actually hurt enemies in CC.
5) Tau FW need to be mounted in a very wargear heavy devilfish to be a decent scoring unit. Kroot, just buy more Kroot!
6) Tau FW cannot infiltrate or outflank.
The list can just go on and on and on, but Tau FW are not very good. Might seem neat, but before I burn points on S5 weapons I'll have to ask what the fuck do I need S5 weapons for when I have masses of higher strength weapons available--and to win, all I need to do is keep them firing by screening the higher strength weapons? Well, the unit that fills that niche are not Tau FW--they are Kroot.
You guys all know Kroot will go to ground right before you assault, because they will leave going to ground immediately upon entering CC with you, right? So they can take a pounding with 2+ cover saves--and if you flame them, odds are they will die or break....and still prevent you from assaulting.
Tau FW suck because they just do. You go ahead and burn markerlights on them. I'll use my markerlight hits for my crisis suits and railgun shots. See who comes out the winner.

Going to ground with Kroot isn't a very good trick anyway; most good players won't shoot before they assault, especially against stuff like Kroot with a low leadership value. I agree though, Kroot are amazing, and Fire Warriors are pretty underwhelming.
Makes me sad knowing that FWs are crap. I wish it was not so. I'd love to run a "pure" tau army. But I know that to have a good list that cannot be done. If I didn't love the model and hate the kroot ones I'd only have 6 FWs in my army, just because you need 1+
I can't agree more with you on this. While i do have 12 fire warriors in my 2k list as opposed to your 6, they are really nothing more than a 60 point upgrade that makes my devilfish a scoring unit, who occasionally jump out of their vehicle to die gloriously for The Greater Good as a speedbump.
I am thinking I will start building up a Tau army once I get my Blood Angels all sorted out. Josh and I have talked about it a lot after my games against his Tau. In the most recent game, he had two squads of firewarriors, but only because he took two squads of pathfinders (those markerlights! dammit!), and needed something to toss in the second devilfish.
When I first got the few Tau I have now, back in 4th edition, though the firwarriors look really cool, I always thought that Kroot were a much more solid troops choice. All those 4th ed. dudes back then thought I was nuts!
Kroot were *always* a "better", more competitive choice. However, I adore the Fire Warrior models for some reason, and also really enjoy the army fluff ... so I almost always use more than I "should". I can get away with it most games because my local environment isn't very cutthroat.
But when my Tau go to a tournament, many of those poor little FWs get left behind. So sad. :(
