Hello Stelek I'm an earnest fan of yours from good ole sunny Greece. I wonder if you could help me with a Mono Thousand Sons list. Here is what I had in mind:
1 Ahriman @ 250 Pts
1 Dreadnought @ 115 Pts
Crazed; Dreadnought CCW; Twin Linked Bolter; Multi-Melta; Extra Armor; Searchlight; Smoke Launchers

9 X Thousand Sons +1 X Aspiring Sorcerer with Bolt of Tzeentch + 1 Rhino with Extra Armor @ 342 Pts

1 Predator @ 100 Pts
Autocannon; 2 x Heavy Bolter Sponsons; Searchlight; Smoke Launchers
1 Predator @ 100 Pts
Autocannon; 2 x Heavy Bolter Sponsons; Searchlight; Smoke Launchers
2 Obliterators @ 170 Pts
Total 1991 Pts
I would like to exclude from the list anything expressly associated with the other Gods and anything Daemonic (like Defilers, Daemon Princes, Summoned Daemons and Possessed).

That can work just fine as is, although Ahriman is very questionable--take a regular sorc and buy another obliterator.
2 Oblits are 150 points, by the way.
Just note that against Eldar with Runes, your sorcs will be shut down and against mech armies it's a crippling blow.
Hope that helps!

Crippling blow against mech? Why? Perils of the Warp?
Yep. I was liking the army just fine when I was testing it.
Then I ran into Eldar, and my army folded like a wet paper sack because half of my already so-so anti-tank ability stopped working. You will likely lose a sorc every turn if you try to use the bolt to take down vehicles.
Which still sucks ass against land raiders, so...Sons have issues.
Oh. You know, 6 multi-melta shots (with your suggested changes) can kill a Land Raider. Just saying. But theres several other armies with the same issues and they still can work. Its more competitive than Orks, at least. (Not that isnt too hard)
Chaos doesn't get multi-meltas on anything but RAWR CRAZEE dreads, because Chaos was a bad pokemon.
Oh and Oblits don't count. I can count on one hand the number of times I've multimelta'd something with them at short range.
Slow asses. If they deep strike, the rest of your army poofs. Yay for Chaos!
I lol'ed.
Then i checked the codex and the rulebook.
Then i cursed. But i wanted a marine-spanker so im fine now :)
Since I sent this list I thought about ommiting the obliterators (although undeniably useful their countless mutations aren't very acceptable fluffwise in a 1k Sons list). I also intend to keep Ahriman for fluff reasons. That's the new variant I came up with:
1 Ahriman 250 pts
3x(9 1k Sons w Asp. Sorc. With Bolt of Change
+ Rhino w Extra Armor) 1026 pts
3x Dreadnought w Multi-melta 345 pts
2x Predator w Lascannon Sponsors 260
1 x Predator w H. Bolter Sponsors & Havoc Launcher 115
Total 1996 pts
I was wondering if I should drop one 1k Son to stick Ahriman in a Rhino. If so what should I do with the remaining 27 points? I was thinking about giving pintle mounted twin linked bolters to the 2 lascannon preds (although I find it mostly pointless on an anti tank vehicle) and replacing the dreadnought heavy bolters with heavy flamers in order to deal more easily with hordes (that is why I used the havoc launcher on the h. bolter sponsor pred). Comment on this if you want.
Well fwiw, I think Oblits are the *only* fluffy choice for TS to bring.
Fluff? a) All the Traitor Legions have Predators and Dreadnoughts and b) you are saying that constant mutations are not fluffy with the Changer of Ways?? Have you even saw the Tzeentch Daemons, the Horrors??
Besides Oblits just follow around trying to get machine-stuff.
Oh and you already bought the Ahriman model amirite? You can always convert it into a regular sorc.
@Gx1080:
Slight exaggeration, perhaps. World Eaters Predators? Back in the day, sure, but not anymore. Hard to imagine 1k Sons running them...dust doesn't make a good driver of a battle tank...
I have thought of my army as the faction that left the main 1k Sons Chapter together with Ahriman, having accepted the Rubric and its price as the only way to escape mutations, disappointed with Magnus' indifference towards their diminishing humanity.
They are willing to accept machines, rogue Tzeentch Sorcerers and Space Marines (like Terminators) in their ranks but not daemonic and mutated stuff (like daemonic possession vehicles, defilers, summoned daemons, daemon princes, oblits etc). They wouldn't enlist the help of Chaos Spawn although the would turn their enemies into such.
Since I'm relatively new to the game and have not read the previous codex I would gladly accept advice and corrections for my fluff.
