Foot Armies

Hi Stelek
So I'm looking for something new. Recently I sent some stupid list to Froggage but it seems he's not around. So while I wait I can as well pester you with some other questions ;). I was thinking about foot armies, simply because they are not mech which everyone and their mother runs. So are there any viable foot armies left? I know Guard can be effective but they are not my cup of tea. I'm mainly interested in Eldar. I was thinking about Wraithlords and spam of guardians with some heavy weapons and warlocks with mobile cover saves, add Avatar and some farseer. Any good? Maybe avengers would be better or rangers? I know very little about eldar codex so I can't really tell if its good idea. Any tips, directions what can make good foot army?

Oh I'm sure Froggage is somewhere around here.  lol

Anyway, certainly you can build a foot list.

An Eldar one though?

Problem with Eldar foot armies is you have limited means of popping enemy tanks open, so many armies will be able to roll up on you and take you apart bit by bit.

I see a lot of complaints about Mechdar being 'common', but truth is--without vehicles, the Eldar cannot deliver knockout punches.

You can if you wish run a list based on having some bikes, does that count?  lol

Fire Dragons can't be used in a foot list effectively, they'll be shot up.  Since they are your best place to get meltaguns, that leaves Harlies.

Personally I'd put more effort into a semi-mech list, instead of a foot list.  Eldar aren't marines, they can't just pretend like they can make their way in the world with specialized troops and no way to deliver them.

Sorry man, other armies can do foot builds but Eldar really struggle.

You suprised me. I thought that eldar foot army can deal with tanks. Wraithlords with lances, harlequins, witchblade in every guardian squad to annoy dreads + scatter laser which isn't exactly at weapon but it can stun rhino or something :P. I knew you'd bring up jetbikes but despite beign model with wounds and all they aren't exactly "foot" unit. But I guess better to take them than struggle with poor army to comfort theme. Well anyway I wasn't exactly thinking about eldar foot army but foot army. So how about other armies?

Yeah, let me go through all 500 foot armies real fast.

K, done. As soon as foot armies have a built in meltagun that can threaten out 20", they'll be fine.

Guard are about the only list that can run foot lists and be allright.

Mech Guard are still better.

So just guards are doable. Eh and I hoped I could actually put some infantry models on board instead of keeping them on side ;). Thanks anyway. I'll think about some semi mechdar with bikes or maybe wait for 6th edition to (hopefully) do something different ;).

Necrons, Tyranids, and Chaos Demons are all infantry armies by virtue of not having tanks or transports. Ok between all of them they have a dread and a pos pretend raider.

So I think if you really want a foot army, and don't like Guard--try one of those.

Chaos Demons are a fun if uncompetitive army.

Necrons and Tyranids will, I'm sure, be more viable once they get transport options so they too can 'mech' up. I expect those by end of next year, or it's another GW fail.

So don't wait for 6th edition. 40k hasn't been this fun in a long time, if you want a static shooting list--well, give up that idea. It's boring as shit to play, has been since 3rd edition.

The modelling possibilities for Tyranid transports are amazing. I envision centipede style creatures with gel-filled "pouches" along the sides that contain hormagaunts or termagaunts, which burst open and disgorge hordes of little 'nidlings at the enemy's front door, still dripping ichor from the journey.

Wow, I should write fluff for these guys.

After playing mech SM since the 3rd edition, I wanted something different and settled on Daemons as they're something completely different. Been undefeated so far with this at 1500 against WH, Eldar, SM and IG, all mech lists (all credits to Stelek)

3xHerald of Tzeentch w/chariot, bolt, master of sorcery, we are legion

3x5 Fiends of Slaanesh

1x6 + 2x5 Plaguebearers

3xDaemon Prince, mark of Tzeentch, bolt, gaze

Probably because of me being lucky/my opponents being sucky/the smaller points level

What do you think of the conversion of the list to 1500, any improvements?

Nah I don't want static gunline. If I wanted to just throw dice I could do this without models :P. I just want something little bit different from mech chaos I sometimes play with. Problem with Necrons , Tyranids and Chaos Daemons (ok they aren't THAT bad but they are little too fantasy for me) is that they suck and beign not very experienced player who rather rarely plays it would mean every single game lost so not that much fun (losing can be fun (especially in Dwarf Fortress) but not if it gets very repetetive). Heh it turned out I'm just too whiny (I don't like guards, daemons too fantasy, blah blah blah). Hmm I guess I will do some thinking about some mini tyranid MC army or something just for the sake of variety.

Ps. 6th edition was just joke.
