2500 Points of Assault Marines

By thenefariousmrpants

Per Stelek's demands, here’s the Blood Angels assault list I ran at last years ‘Ard Boyz.

Dante
Corbulo
Honor Guard w/ jump packs, melta x2, melta bombs x2, sanguinary priest and chapter banner
Honor Guard w/ jump packs, melta x2, melta bombs x2 and sanguinary priest
Death Company x8 w/ jump packs
Veteran Assault Squad x10 w/ power fist, lightning claw pair x2, melta x2 and melta bombs x1
Veteran Assault Squad x10 w/ power fist, lightning claw pair x2, melta x2 and melta bombs x1
Assault Squad x10 w/ power fist and melta bombs
Assault Squad x10 w/ power fist and melta bombs
Assault Squad x10 w/ power fist and melta bombs
Assault Squad x5 w/o jump packs in rhino

The rhino squad is there to give Corbulo a burst forward on turn 1 if possible but you can do it without the tank if you’d rather go no vehicles. Other than that, the list plays pretty straight forward… go get the other guy. The list struggles against mech but can still get the job done with its meltas and krak grenades (Just hope you don’t wiff against a redeemer or you will pay for it…). If you run into a foot list… just smile and try not to be too much of an asshole. If I was going to play with the list again, I might make some changes to increase the number of bodies and the effectiveness against mech like so:

Dante
Corbulo
Honor Guard w/ jump packs, melta x2, melta bombs x1, and chapter banner
Honor Guard w/ jump packs, melta x2, melta bombs x1
Death Company x10 w/ jump packs
Veteran Assault Squad x5 w/ melta x2 and melta bombs x1
Veteran Assault Squad x5 w/ melta x2 and melta bombs x1
Veteran Assault Squad x5 w/ melta x2 and melta bombs x1
Assault Squad x10 w/ power fist and melta bombs
Assault Squad x10 w/ power fist and melta bombs
Assault Squad x10 w/ power fist and melta bombs
Assault Squad x10 w/ power fist and melta bombs
Assault Squad x5 w/o jump packs in rhino w/ melta bombs

The problem is, I love my lightning claws so I’d most likely leave it the way it was.

Against a foot list huh? ;)

Yeah that army is a very big rock, and like a bike army...it carries it's own transportation with it, which you can't get rid of (except for a single rhino in the BA list).

But if you really wanna run a jump pack horde, BA are the way to do it.

A balanced list still has a hard time with this. It really all depends on how many 'sacrifice' units you have, whether your firepower depends on getting within 12" to deliver, and how good his run moves are on turn 1.

2500Pts of Jump Packs does look pretty...

Do either of you think this army scales down at all? My instinct tells me it'd be tough to make it competitive at less than 2000Pts.

This 1500Pt list is roughly what I was thinking of adapting my BAs to when the codex came out:

200 - Dante

100 - Corbulo

25 - 5xDeath Co. - Jump Packs

280 - 10xAssault Marines - Vet Srgt w/Fist and Melta bombs

280 - 10xAssault Marines - Vet Srgt w/Fist and Melta bombs

145 - 5xAssault Marines - Rhino, Vet Srgt w/Melta bombs

235 - 6xVeterans - 1xTH, 2xMeltas, 2xMelta Bombs

235 - 6xVeterans - 1xTH, 2xMeltas, 2xMelta Bombs

Alternatively the two veteran squads could be consolidated into one 10man squad and the spare points spent on MM attack bikes. Would help with Land Raiders but I'm not sure that less boots on the ground is really what the army needs lol.

Thanks for the list MR.P :)
